“I’ve been a fan of WAR GAMES since I was a little kid, so I was psyched when Skuzzles approached me to do an official poster for the film. Pretty honoured, especially since this movie is pre-Bueller Broderick. That’s a big deal in my household. I immediately started sketching up some ideas and was heavily focused on old Atari box art for inspiration. I didn’t transfer that actual Atari aesthetic, but more the layouts and compositions served as a great starting point. After a few rounds of sketching, the poster was nailed down. Super fun.” – James White

“The Act of Killing” by Jay Shaw (Mondo release)
Direct from Mondo:
Tomorrow we are releasing a poster in conjunction with Drafthouse Films’ release of the critically acclaimed THE ACT OF KILLING.
In this chilling and inventive documentary, the filmmakers examine a country where death squad leaders are celebrated as heroes, challenging them to reenact their real-life mass-killings in the style of the American movies they love. The hallucinatory result is a cinematic fever dream, an unsettling journey deep into the imaginations of mass-murderers and the shockingly banal regime of corruption and impunity they inhabit.
On sale Wednesday, July 17th at a random time HERE.
“Pacific Rim” by Todd Slater
Direct from Odd City Entertainment:
Just as Odd City Entertainment began their licensed limited edition print series for Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Pacific Rim with an epic Jaeger print, they close it with a symbolic hand numbered and signed Gipsy Danger print from world renowed artist, Todd Slater. Each work of art took inspiration from various aspects of Oscar® nominated director Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim to retell the story in screen printed glory.
Roman Morales, Odd City CEO, summed up this series of art, “When we picked up the license for Pacific Rim, we were so excited to be working with Guillermo del Toro and his team. We knew that we had to deliver something very special. The decision was made very early that we would do a series of prints but, we didn’t want them all to be the same. So, we set out to curate a series of different styles, themes and artists to show the complex nature this film embodies. Gabz brilliantly evoked WW-II style propoganda posters with his print, James Fosdike’s art tapped into the emotion and awe of the film, N.E. explored the concept of mind-melding in detailed metallic ink, Graham Erwin appealed to our own childhood fascination through his illustrations of monsters and machines and, with a beautiful foil variant, Todd Slater emphasized the enormity of the Kaiju threat and the Jaegers built to defend the human race.”
Todd Slater’s limited edition Pacific Rim prints will go on sale on Tuesday, July 16th at a random time HERE.
“When I first began seeing the early images for Pacific Rim, I was immediately struck by the scale of the Jaegers versus the humans. These pictures served as a reminder of how fragile human life is and I decided to create my image around this thought. I wanted to depict these giant machines as the protectors of humanity from the mysterious beasts that have emerged from a portal beneath the ocean.” -Todd Slater

“Pacific Rim” by James Fosdike
Last week Ain’t it Cool News & Odd City Entertainment had a pre-screening of Pacific Rim in Austin, TX. There they debuted James Fosdike’s 36″ x 24″ studio licensed Pacific Rim prints for this event. The remaining prints for this poster will go on sale Monday, July 15th at a random time HERE.
“Put a giant monster in a film and I’m there. Put a giant robot in a film and I’m there. Put them together and you’ve made me a child again. I’m so excited about this film and I am absolutely thrilled to have had the opportunity to draw a poster for it. When I saw the trailer, the image of the young girl on a deserted street watching the jets fly over really struck a chord in me. I was reminded of the films, cartoons and comics that I read and loved as a child. I wanted to know what caused that street to be deserted, what the girl was in awe of, and where the jets were going. Lucky for me I was able to find out, and to create my impression of what was in store!” -James Fosdike

“Cabin Fever” & “The Thing” by QFSChris
San Diego Comic Con posters from Mondo
Today, Mondo unveiled some of their posters that will be featured at the upcoming SDCC. The biggest change this time around is that some of their posters will be pre-sold online before the convention. This is to cut down heavy traffic and overall craziness that accompanied the Mondo booth last year. For the other dozen or so Mondo releases, instead of randomly tweeting the sale when it comes available and causing a mad stampede, they will have a daily schedule for you guys to check out showing the times of releases. I commend Mondo for the steps they have taken this year and really look forward to another great year at SDCC. Who’s going? 🙂
