“Mother of Coral” by Tatiana Suarez

PangeaSeed Foundation is pleased to announce the latest print release for our 2019 print project, “In Peril”. Featuring original artwork by supporting ARTivist Tatiana Suarez (USA). This limited art print edition highlights the devastating impacts of climate change on coral reefs and the importance of protecting these fragile, yet incredibly important marine ecosystems. On sale now HERE.

“Mother of Coral” by Tatiana Suarez. 16″ x 20″ Giclee. Ed of 50 S/N. $75

“The ocean is essential to all forms of life. I often depict women in my work as ocean deities who serve as the goddesses and protectors of the seas. This particular piece was inspired by the imagery of Our Lady of Sorrows, depicted in her mournful state. The arrangement of bleached coral frames her face similar to the way her cloak would. Iridescent, pearl-like tears stream down her face as she weeps in response to the human activity that directly contributes to climate change and its rapid impact on our oceans.

Coral reefs, known as the “rainforests of the sea,” are home to nearly a quarter of all marine life. Between the continuous absorption of CO2 emissions and the increasing acidity levels contributing to the warming of our oceans, coral reefs are bleaching and dying off at an alarming rate. At this continued pace, this crisis threatens the very existence of oceanic ecosystems and has a direct reflection on human resources.” – Tatiana Suarez
