The Oscars posters series from Mondo

With The Oscars taking place this weekend on Sunday, Mondo will be commemorating this event with a poster series of many of the nominated movies in various categories. Today, 3 posters were unveiled by 3 well known artists in an extensively talented Mondo family of artists. See pics below for details.

We will be releasing the regular version of Bryan Lee O’Malley and Kevin Tong’s BATTLE ROYALE poster tomorrow. It was so much fun re-analyzing the poster after watching BATTLE ROYALE at the Tugg screening we hosted in Houston, TX last weekend. Kevin provided the colors on the poster and Bryan illustrated every kill and pretty much every character from the movie down to Beat Takashi eating cookies (and the chicken!). The level of detail is amazing and again, D&L Screenprinting proves why they are our go to printers. BONUS! Bryan signed all of the regular editions before he left, so all posters will have his signature.

Dan Mumford will have a new print available next week titled, “The Wickerman” via Dark City Gallery. This is the first print in a ‘British Cinema Series’ which celebrates the best of British film. Most now know of the operation to help six American diplomats escape Iran in 1980 from the blockbuster film by the same name. The cover story used during the rescue was that the diplomats were members of a film crew scouting the location of a new sci-fi movie. To carry out the mission, the CIA set up a functioning office in Hollywood, obtained a script, and even created a pre-production movie poster. VF Studio, the creative wing of Vandal Factory, has meticulously reproduced this CIA-designed poster, which will be available for two days only.

As a bonus, VF Studio has also created a red variant edition numbered to 25. The first ten purchasers will receive both the variant and original edition, and the remainder will be randomly added to the remaining orders. The Academy and Gallery1988 present: Art Inspired by the Nominated Best Pictures

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Gallery 1988 will present “For Your Consideration,” their first collaborative exhibition featuring art inspired by the 2012 Best Picture Oscar® nominees, on display February 14 through 17 at Gallery1988 Melrose in Los Angeles. The images can currently be viewed in a digital gallery at Oscar.com.

“Working hand-in-hand with the Academy has been a dream come true for Gallery1988 and its artists,” said Jensen Karp, co-owner and co-curator of Gallery1988. “So much inspiration has come from past Oscar telecasts as well as the amazing range of films that have been nominated this year. It was a perfect fit for our style of artwork and treatment, and we can’t wait to show everyone the results of some of our most creative contemporary minds.”

The Academy and Gallery1988 commissioned a small group of young international artists to create original screen prints inspired by this year’s nine Best Picture nominees. The participating artists and their respective films are Matt Owen Amour, Anthony Petrie Argo, Rich Kelly Beasts of the Southern Wild, Mark Englert Django Unchained, Phantom City Creative Les Misérables, Tom Whalen Life of Pi, Jeff Boyes Lincoln, Joshua Budich Silver Linings Playbook and Godmachine Zero Dark Thirty.

These screen prints are not available for purchase; however, fans will have several opportunities to obtain limited edition posters. On each day of “For Your Consideration,” Gallery1988 will give away free posters to the first 100 people who visit the gallery at a specified time (see below).
