Weekend Features: Unreal resin-cast 3D paintings by Riusuke Fukahori

It’s An Art World

Look again closely, these are not real goldfish in a bucket. They are in fact 3 dimensional acrylic paintings of goldfish in resin done in meticulous layers-upon-layers to achieve a lifelike, 3D effect. Amazing artistic achievement by Riusuke Fukahori. He just closed out an exhibition titled Goldfish Salvation at the ICN Gallery in London however I’ll be keeping an eye out for him in the future to hopefully premier some works in the States.

Weekend Features: Tissue Series: Anatomical Cross-Sections in Paper by Lisa Nilsson

It’s An Art World

Truly creative, ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking, with clinical precision and execution best describes Lisa Nilsson’s amazing Tissue Series. The detail is incredible and for sure to catch the eye of art enthusiasts and the scientifically inclined alike.

“These pieces are made of Japanese mulberry paper and the gilded edges of old books. They are constructed by a technique of rolling and shaping narrow strips of paper called quilling or paper filigree. Quilling was first practiced by Renaissance nuns and monks who made artistic use of the gilded edges of worn out bibles, and later by 18th century ladies who made artistic use of lots of free time. I find quilling exquisitely satisfying for rendering the densely squished and lovely internal landscape of the human body in cross section.” -Lisa Nilsson
