It’s an Art World
The title of this post may seem a bit far-fetched, but a closer look at Chan Hwee Chong’s illustrations and that is exactly what you see. This Singaporean designer has recreated/reinterpreted classic masterpieces such as Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”, and Vermeer’s “The Girl with a Pearl Earring” using one continuous circular line-stroke of varying degrees of thickness and line-spacing. He described it as an exercise of “precision and control”.
Chong is so meticulous with his pieces that each one usually takes months to complete due to the fact that if a mistake was made during the drawing, he would scrap the whole piece and start over! Using only a piece of paper and a Faber Castell Artist Pen, Chong’s art is proof that creation is a human element, regardless of what mediums or materials are available for use.
