“I Declare War” by Jay Shaw (Mondo release)

Direct from Mondo:

Tomorrow we release Jay Shaw’s poster for the brand new Drafthouse Films release, I DECLARE WAR. In case you haven’t heard of the film, here is a synopsis:

“Armed with nothing more than twigs, their imaginations and a simple set of rules, a group of 12-year-olds engaged in a lively game of Capture the Flag in the neighborhood woods start dangerously blurring the lines between make-believe and reality.”

Jay’s art pays homage to some iconic war movie imagery, while joyfully playing with the childish innocence captured in the film.

“The Act of Killing” by Jay Shaw (Mondo release)

Direct from Mondo:

Tomorrow we are releasing a poster in conjunction with Drafthouse Films’ release of the critically acclaimed THE ACT OF KILLING.

In this chilling and inventive documentary, the filmmakers examine a country where death squad leaders are celebrated as heroes, challenging them to reenact their real-life mass-killings in the style of the American movies they love. The hallucinatory result is a cinematic fever dream, an unsettling journey deep into the imaginations of mass-murderers and the shockingly banal regime of corruption and impunity they inhabit.

On sale Wednesday, July 17th at a random time HERE.

“A Band Called Death” by Jay Shaw (Mondo release)

Direct from Mondo:

Tomorrow we will be releasing our poster for Drafthouse Films’ recent acquisition, a documentary called A BAND CALLED DEATH. For our fans who have never heard of punk trio DEATH, I highly encourage watching the trailer for the film HERE. Their story is fascinating.

In short, they were a band who’s sound, some say, pre-dates The Ramones and Sex Pistols in originating Punk Rock as we know it. Trouble is, they were an all-black band with a controversial name that made record labels weary of their marketability, and so their album never got released. Unbeknownst to them, their only release, a 7″ single, became a secret success in the underground vinyl collectors market. It ultimately drove the band to reunite and find unexpected success 35 years after the recording of the material.

A BAND CALLED DEATH captures the fall and unexpected rise of a band who’s singular vision paid off in unexpected ways. We are super excited to release our new poster by Jay Shaw. Be sure to check out the film, now on VOD, when it comes out in select theaters courtesy of Drafthouse Films. On sale Thursday, June 27th at a random time HERE.

ABOUT THE FILM:
Winner of the Golden Lion at the 2012 Venice Film Festival, PIETÀ is the acclaimed film from the celebrated and controversial Korean director Kim Ki-Duk (BAD GUY; SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, WINTER… AND SPRING; 3-IRON). In this intense and haunting story, a loan shark living an isolated and lonely existence uses brutality to threaten and collect paybacks from desperate borrowers for his moneylender boss. He proficiently and mercilessly collects the debts without regard to the pain he causes his countless victims. One day, a mysterious woman appears in front of him claiming to be his long-lost mother. After coldly rejecting her at first, he gradually accepts her in his life and decides to quit his cruel job and seek a decent, redemptive life. However, he soon discovers a dark secret stemming from his past and realizes it may be too late to escape the horrific consequences already set in motion from his previous life.
