“Krampus” by Phineas X. Jones

x jones krampus

"Krampus" by Phineas X. Jones. 12" x 12" 6-color Screenprint. Ed of 34 S/N. $25

“Krampus is a mythical creature recognized in Alpine countries. According to legend, Krampus accompanies Saint Nicholas during the Christmas season, warning and punishing bad children, in contrast to St. Nicholas, who gives gifts to good children. When the Krampus finds a particularly naughty child, it stuffs the child in its sack and carries the frightened child away to its lair, presumably to devour for its Christmas dinner.”

I got to be involved in a printmaker portfolio exchange on a Krampus theme this year, and this was my contribution. I think it’s important to replace some of the joy and good will of the holidays and inject a bit of mortal terror to really make the season special for our children. (By which I mean your children.) Please won’t you help? -Phineas X. Jones
