Gallery Openings / Exhibtions

gallery1988 ghostbusters mitchell

Direct from Gallery1988:

THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, Gallery1988 will begin it’s most ambitious, and secretive, project ever. We have teamed up with Sony Pictures to pay tribute to one of the greatest movies of all-time, turning 30 this year: Ghostbusters.

We have produced a once-in-a-lifetime traveling art exhibit that features more than 70 artists creating original paintings, limited edition prints, sculptures and apparel inspired by the classic comedy. It all kicks off properly in New York City THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, from 7-10 PM at 69 Leonard St., near the famous firehouse from the film.

A majority of the artwork will ONLY BE AVAILABLE by attending one of the galleries in-person. A very small allotment of prints has been set aside for each city, with a smaller selection at our final Comic Con stop. This is the ONLY way to purchase this artwork. There will be small surprises at each stop as well.

A commemorative series of special 30th Anniversary screenprints WILL BE AVAILABLE in limited amounts ONLINE, in addition to in-store, at ghostbusters30th.com. These will be released sporadically over the next month. This set consists of prints from Mike Mitchell (poster), Phantom City Creative, Anthony Petrie, Tom Whalen, Tara McPherson, Dan Mumford, Dave Perillo, Lora Zombie, Godmachine, Rich Kelly (select cities), Mark Englert, DKNG and Joshua Budich. When purchasing online, please read terms & conditions CAREFULLY, as combined shipping will be offered.

We also will have very small amounts of collaborative t-shirts from LRG, Johnny Cupcakes, Homage & Rebel8 at each stop.

The New York Ghostbusters gallery opens SATURDAY NIGHT, April 19th, with an opening reception from 7-10 PM. We will be open everyday through April 26th, from 11-7 PM. Our next stop is Gallery1988 (West) in Los Angeles on May 17th.

Galerie F presents: Justin Santora in ‘Remnants’

Gallery Openings / Exhibitions

santora remnants

Galerie F is hosting a weekend long pop up show for Chicago based printmaker and illustrator Justin Santora. Remnants features a collection of original drawings, paintings, pen and ink illustration, and scratchboards from the artist’s past three years of production.

Opening reception Friday April 11 6p to 10p
All unsold works online Monday April 14 at 2PM CST (12pm PDT) HERE.

Remnants displays an array of original ink drawings, paintings and other works on paper. Many of the drawings and sketches to be displayed have come to life as screen printed gig posters and art prints. His subject matter often is a visual definition of ‘the Midwest;’ carefully muted colors allow his painstakingly detailed drawings to stand at the forefront. Remnants will give you an inside look into the methods of an analog screenprinter with an eye for nuances.

Galerie F presents: Tracie Ching in “Well Read”

Gallery Openings / Exhibitions

galerie f well read

In collaboration with Chicago’s Galerie F, D.C.-based artist Tracie Ching debuts her solo exhibition, Well Read.

Well Read investigates the relationship between contemporary films and the literary classics from which they are derived. In this body of work Tracie Ching explores different novels that have spawned successful film counterparts, creating her own interpretations which carefully adhere to their respective stories. The show itself is a response to the use of source material and the effects that different visual representations have on them over time.

Every representation, including Tracie’s, is a result of applying different filters to a piece of work that has become larger than the creator could have ever imagined. While the film industry may introduce aesthetic, thematic, or even plot changes, Tracie attempts to stay close to the original source material while applying aesthetics attributed to the time period of each novel. Limited edition silk screen prints accompanied by letterpress bookmarks and custom bound books will be available. A portion of all proceeds from the show will be donated to Reading is Fundamental, the largest children’s literacy nonprofit in the United States (rif.org).

Opening reception Friday March 28th 2014 from 6p to 10p.

***Online sale on Monday, March 31st at 2pm Central (12pm PDT) HERE.

Mecka Gallery presents: Judith Supine in ‘Golden Child’

Gallery Openings / Exhibitions

supine golden child

Mecka Gallery is excited to announce it’s latest exhibition, Golden Child, with street artist Judith Supine. The Brooklyn based street artist best known for his provocative, ‘cut-up’ technique. The somewhat anti-social, highly admired Supine has been a unique and steadfast fixture on the New York art scene since the mid-2000s. He is widely recognized, for both his works as well as their exceptional placement. Most notably, in 2007, Supine climbed, freehand, thirty-one stories to hang one of his signature collage characters over the Manhattan Bridge. He proudly was not arrested for this act.

Judith Supine’s Golden Child, a solo exhibition and installation, will debut on March 29th at 8pm at Mecka Gallery (65 Meadow Street) in Brooklyn and also feature music from (CREEP) Lauren Flax.

In anticipation for the show this Saturday, March 29th, they will be releasing two prints.

“Arcadio”, a 1 color, hand pulled and hand embellished screen print on archival paper will go on sale Tuesday, March 25th at 12pm Eastern (9am PDT) on Meckagallery.com. Each print is 30 x 40 inches, 100% unique, signed and numbered out of an edition of 30. Each will cost $450.

“Treasure Island”, a 5 color, 18 x 24 inches screen print will be available to purchase at the show on Saturday at 8pm. Each print is signed and numbered out of an edition of 100 and will cost $150. The artist has also randomly included 5 hand embellished prints into the stack as well as created a few originals for the first few people in line for the show.
