Call for Artists: Limited-Edition Sharknado 2 Art for Comic-Con

The people over at The Asylum are currently holding a ‘call for artists’ for artwork for Sharknado 2. Full details below:

We’re looking for great art to commemorate the release of Sharknado 2 this July. Sharknado was arguably the coolest movie event of last year, and Gallery 1988 printed a series of cooler-than-cool limited-edition posters inspired by the film.

This year, The Asylum is commissioning artwork for Sharknado 2: The Second One. We’re opening the floor to all talented artists: show us your take on Sharknado 2!

The sequel moves the action to New York City, where our heroes must battle an even bigger shark-storm than before. Whether it’s sharks blowing across the New York City skyline or Fin hefting an NYFD chainsaw, we’re confident the premise lends itself to some fantastic art.

We’ll unveil the winning artwork at our booth at San Diego Comic-Con, where it’ll be seen and coveted by a crowd of hundreds of thousands (and that’s before it hits the Internet).

If you win, you’ll receive $500, and your artwork will be the showpiece of The Asylum’s booth at San Diego Comic-Con. It’ll be featured on limited-edition prints and t-shirts, plus any other swag we deem worthy of it.

Submissions are due by the end of the day on Friday, June 27. Please submit your design as a hi-res image, .pdf or .jpg, to contest@theasylum.cc for judging.

We’ll take any and all submissions suitable for printing on a 18×24 poster as well as on a t-shirt. Concept art and unfinished designs are acceptable – if you win, you’ll get another week or so to finalize your image. We will retain all rights to the final art, and reserve the right to print and sell it on any media we choose.

If you have any questions, please contact me at marie@theasylum.cc. Can’t wait to see what you’ve got!

On vacation…

I’ll be on vacation for the next week so posts may be sparse and erratic. I’ll do what I can do update you all now and then though. We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled program by the beginning of the 2nd week of June. Have a great one everyone!

PangeaSeed and 1xRUN presents: ‘Sea Walls Expeditions’

pangeaseed 1xrun Sea Walls Expeditions

Sea Walls: Murals for Oceans is a ground-breaking street art project created by PangeaSeed to bring the beauty and the plight of the world’s oceans into streets around the globe. By collaborating with internationally renowned artists, we create large-scale murals that focus attention on pressing environmental issues the oceans are facing.

In collaboration with our friends at 1xRUN we are embarking on our biggest Sea Walls project yet. We’ve invited some of today’s biggest names in contemporary street art to join us on our first-ever Sea Walls expedition.

The mission of the expedition is to offer these artists the opportunity to swim with and study endangered whale sharks and oceanic manta rays off the coast of the island of Isla Mujeres, Mexico from July 20-28, 2014. Inspired by their interactions with these majestic giants in the wild, the artists will create a series of large-scale public murals on the island to help educate and raise greatly needed awareness within the local and tourist communities for the plight of these animals and the oceans. The murals will also highlight the benefits of ecotourism and long-term sustainability of natural resources.

Sea Walls: Murals for Oceans is a new approach to ocean conservation, marrying art and activism. The Sea Walls expedition will make a large impact and gain global media attention – with your help. Help them reach their goal of $25,000 and in return you can get some really cool art! Pledge now HERE.
