“Things to Come” by Laurent Durieux (Mondo release)

Direct from Mondo:

Tomorrow we are continuing our collaboration with The Criterion Collection by releasing Laurent Durieux’s spectacular artwork for the Blu-Ray / DVD release of H.G. Well’s THINGS TO COME (Criterion Spine #660).

“A landmark collaboration between writer H. G. Wells, producer Alexander Korda, and designer and director William Cameron Menzies, THINGS TO COME is a science fiction film like no other, a prescient political work that predicts a century of turmoil and progress. Skipping through time, THINGS TO COME bears witness to world war, disease, dictatorship, and, finally, utopia. Conceived, written, and overseen by Wells himself as an adaptation of his own work, this megabudget production, the most ambitious ever from Korda’s London Films, is a triumph of imagination and technical audacity.”

We are so incredibly proud to collaborate with Criterion and Laurent on this beautiful piece. On sale Tuesday, June 25th at a random time HERE.

durieux Metropolis-Alternate Edition

“Metropolis” by Laurent Durieux. 12″ x 36″ Screenprint. Ed of 100 N. $100 (alternate)

The undisputed position in cinematic history that “Metropolis” occupies made it almost mandatory as DHM’s first Seminal Film Series release, most notably so due to our silent film obsession, and our artist of choice had to be Laurent Durieux. “Metropolis” is a particular passion project for Laurent and one he’d expressed particular interest in working on for DHM since our very first talks with him on showcasing his work for US and international audiences.

The aim of Dark Hall Mansion’s DHM-Seminal Film Series is the very bridging of cinema as art and art as cinema. To create beautiful prints for some of the most resonant American and international films, distilling film and imagery while beholden to no specific screening or advertising obligations. Our aim right from the onset was to honor the tradition of vintage film posters while simultaneously releasing our artists from its commercial constraints. The single goal, to create stunning pieces that are intended, from their inception, to be true works of art that stand alone as just that. The very essence of each film to be distilled and rendered in such a fashion that anyone, even on the most cursory of viewings, will at once appreciate the prints for their visual beauty or in the historical context of what made these films so relevant in the first place.

Editions are as follows:

Standard “Metropolis” Edition: 24″ x 36″ (Edition of 200) $65
Alternate “Metropolis” Edition: 12″ x 36″ (Edition of 100) $100
Metal “Metropolis” Edition: 12″ x 36″ (with Alternate artwork: Edition of 10) $250

*There will also be a “Metropolis” Metal Edition with Standard artwork (Edition of 10) to
be released by our friends at www.emovieposter.com, the world’s largest vintage film poster
collector website.
