Army of Darkness, Evil Dead 2, & Mondonomicon from Mondo

Direct from Mondo:

We’ve gotten quite a few e-mails asking about the remaining copies of ARMY OF DARKNESS by Randy Ortiz from the Kansas City screening back in April. We are excited to announce that we will be releasing them tomorrow wiht a few similarly themed companions.

Tomorrow, along with ARMY OF DARKNESS, we will be selling a brand new print for EVIL DEAD 2 by Jason Edmiston. Also, we will be releasing our third Mondo book, appropriately titled MONDONOMICON. This time around, instead of being only comprised of old prints and a nice leather cover (it has that, too), we have done a little something extra. Screen printed in blood-red across the backs of every print are an assortment of images from “dead” projects. No blank pages in this book. You’ll find 16 previously unused designs of which you can see some sample images of on our blog HERE. This is truly our book of the “dead.”
On sale Thursday, May 9th at a random time HERE.

“I was 15 when Stargate was released in theaters in 1994 and I was immediately struck by it’s epic scale and grand atmosphere. The character of Ra, the Egyptian solar deity, is the one that has really stayed with me all these years. I wanted to give Colonel Jack O’Neil and Dr. Daniel Jackson a glimpse of what awaited them at the other end of the wormhole. The two characters view their journey in different ways. Dr. Jackson’s journey is filled with childlike wonder seeing something magnificent and awe inspiring while Colonel O’Neil bears an atomic bomb capable of producing cataclysmic results. We learn later in the film that the character of Ra is an alien life form who possessed the body of a young boy. I wanted to touch on this and add some tension to the image by showing his glowing blue eyes. The print is 8 colors and features 4 varieties of metallic gold and copper inks. There is also a hidden star chart in the background printed in a shiny black varnish. I hope that the image brings something new to the franchise and that you all enjoy it!” -Todd Slater

“Iron Man 3” by Martin Ansin & Phantom City Creative (Mondo release)

To celebrate the much anticipated 3rd installment of the Iron Man series, Mondo had artists Martin Ansin & Phantom City Creative each create a poster leading up to its Friday release in theaters.

Two 24-by-36 posters — one standard, one a color variant — are by artist Martin Ansin and feature not only Downey but also Don Cheadle as Iron Patriot, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin and scenes from the movie. The standard edition is limited to 450 and costs $50, while the variant numbers 200 and is $75.

“It’s Iron Man comics that led me into drawing when I was a little kid,” Ansin says. “All it took for me to get hooked was an oversized shellhead collection by Tuska in black and white, magic markers and a week sick in bed. Doing this poster has been amazing luck — and a tough job, with that 5-year-old fan keeping tabs on it.”

Toronto’s Phantom City Creative designed a glow-in-the-dark, 24-inch-by-36-inch screenprint that features a bevy of the armor suits worn by the Marvel Comics character in the movies and the comic books. Only 250 are available in the edition, at $45 each.

“To me, Tony Stark’s real superpower is his intelligence and ingenuity,” says Justin Erickson of Phantom City Creative. “With the Iron Man 3 armory poster, I wanted to showcase that by featuring a schematic chart of all the Iron Man suits with Stark himself front and center.”

On sale Friday, May 3rd at a random time HERE.
