On Friday, March 9th, Gallery 1988 Melrose opened its second annual “Is This Thing On?” exhibit, where 100 artists created paintings, prints, sculptures and one-of-a-kind plush all based on their favorite comedians.
In addition, this year the gallery commissioned 9 different artists to pay tribute to “Weird Al” Yankovic, the greatest song parodist of all-time, by creating a career retrospective screenprint set, where each chronicle the major moments from the legend’s career. We were fortunate enough to be one of the participating artists. We created a limited edition screen printed set celebrating Weird Al’s song “White & Nerdy”, a parody of Chamillionaire’s “Ridin”.

A note from the artist:
I have always been a huge fan of the “space race era” and space exploration in general. I had wanted to create a print that captured the feeling of awe and wonder that we Americans shared back on that night in 1969. When it was broadcast live on TV that man had first set foot on the moon.
I was getting ready to print last week when I heard that Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos had found the Apollo 11 booster rockets and was planning to recover them. I couldn’t believe that the timing of his announcement coincided with my latest art print. I’m glad that private individuals like Bezos are able to pick up the mantle held by NASA for so long and continue to try and explore space.
I hope that future generations can feel that same sense of awe and wonder and be inspired as I have been.

In celebration of the second season premiere of HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones, Rhys Cooper created a ‘Call the Banners’ series with each banner representing a House. There are a planned 6 banners in the series (maybe more), and Rhys has 3 of the banners unveiled so far. He plans on opening the series to a full subscription for all 6 banners (w/ matching numbers) and a variant subscription as well.
In addition, you can pre-order just the first 3 banners (wave 1), and in a separate pre-order, the final 3 banners (wave 2) at a later date. He’ll do his best to match numbers if you pre-order wave 1 & 2 separately. Each wave will include a bonus. Cost is tentatively $90 per wave, $180 for the full 6 print subscription, and $240 for the variant 6 print subscription. The size of each banner is tentatively 12″ x 38″.
