Weekend Features: Prints by Cory Norris

Last Call: Amazing works still available

Cory Norris is a tattoo artist who also does some pretty incredible paintings. Much of his painting output thus far have consisted of interesting animal/human portraits in which each one is visibly holding a paint brush. Curious to think what is the message behind this. Perhaps these represent the moods and personalities of the artist himself. Nevertheless, viewing all these images together is very arresting and engaging.

Prints of these images are available for purchase HERE.

harris Ghost Flowers of Empire Steel

Looking at Evan B. Harris’ art, images abound of old folklore containing mermaids, white whales, sea creatures, carnivals of yesteryear, and old fisherman’s tales. Everything has a rustic tinge to it giving his work a nostalgic ‘lost-era’ look to them. Great stuff.

“…the appearance that this wasn’t made in the 21st century, but perhaps in the 20th. So, behind every scratch and claw mark is a story to tell.” -Evan B. Harris

Weekend Features: Prints by Martin Wittfooth

Last Call: Amazing Works Still Available

wittfooth rainmaker
In Martin Wittfooth’s powerful images of animals struggling with it’s coexistence with the modern world, one common theme is prevalent: abandonment. Whether this is a commentary on mankinds affect on nature, or possibly a mirror image of ourselves, Wittfooth’s paintings come across so strong that I feel the animals struggles in each image and begin to question what kind of footprint humans are really leaving in the generations to come.

“I aspire to portray my animals occasionally as mirrors of ourselves, as allegories for our own follies and burdens.” -Martin Wittfooth (via arrestedmotion)

Weekend Features: Prints by Lori Earley

Last Call: Amazing Works Still Available

Lori Earley’s lady portraits, with swan-like necks, large almond eyes, elongated limbs, and waif-like postures are a striking visual to the human composition. Looking at her body of work, they all seem to be an extension of herself whether it be the jaded thoughts of “Leila”, the stern “Ms.V”, or the beauty in “Audrey”. Her art is an reflection of her lifes many stages.

“I`ve always been fascinated with the unusual, even as a young child. I would get excited over violent thunderstorms, hurricanes, a blood-red sky, etc. I love to paint things that I don`t see in normal, everyday life…” -Lori Earley

Weekend Features: Prints by Michael Hussar

hussar Daddysgirl

Michael Hussar’s art is the embodiment of beauty and terror. And in this case, both elements are found on the same side of the coin. As twisted and dark as they are, there is a sensual and evocative maturity underneath each Hussar piece.

“…a voyeuristic snapshot of perceived humanity, complete with freaks and fakery; a gothic wonderland illuminating the gray area between truths and lies.” -Michael Hussar

Although the Halloween season calls for images of the macabre nature, Hussar crosses those boundaries into a timeless and seasonless zone as it’s art buries deep within the mad and sane alike.

Some of his fine works are available for sale HERE.

Weekend Features: “Ocular Orifice” by Cam De Leon

Last Call: Amazing Works Still Available

Tool fans are amongst the most loyal music fans you can find nowdays. Tool have been around since the early 1990s and have since released 4 full length albums and toured the world incessantly. One big draw of this band, besides the excellent music, are the visual aesthetics that the band provides. Downplaying their image, singer/frontman Maynard James Keenan often performed onstage out-of-view of the audience, much to the confusion of many. Regardless, their videos and concerts were filled with artistic dark imagery that was driven deep by the explosive and haunting sounds of their music.

On September 17, 1996, Tool released their second full-length album, Ænima, and was a multi-platinum hit. The album cover and artwork featured designs by artist Cam De Leon which could be set behind the lenticular “lens” to create an effect of sequential animation; ie-the pupil of the eye animated to rotate completely around. This image became iconic to the Tool persona, and was often featured up onstage during performances.

Recently, Cam De Leon “retooled” this image to an updated version for a print release. Titled “Ocular Orfice”, it is a Giclee print available in 2 sizes, 10.5″ x 14″ (Edition of 1000, $60) or 15″ x 20″ (Edition of 33, $160). Truly a classic and instantly recognizable piece by any casual or hardcore Tool fan, and is on sale HERE.

Weekend Features: Prints by Tom Bagshaw

Last Call: Amazing Works Still Available

An illustrator based in Bath, England, Tom Bagshaw creates figurative works of surreal dreamscapes and elegant women who reign supreme. The sometimes dark and allegorical scenes taking place in these landscapes, from the fashionable dresses to the occasional creepy elements in Bagshaw’s paintings are often balanced out with quirky or humorous details which are charming for the viewer to discover. While feminine beauty plays a large role in his work, the women he depicts are never frail damsels in distress. More often than not they are strong, intriguing characters, with an air of mystery to them.

It always amazes me on the sheer amount of talent and creativity that is expressed in this world that we live in. There is almost so much that often there lurks gems just waiting to be found and corralled. Tom Bagshaw’s works is a shining example of surreal pieces of elegant art that is waiting to be owned and framed with an ornate black frame in your office/home. It’s interesting to note that like Audrey Kawasaki’s women, all of Tom Bagshaw’s women are the same person, just placed in different scenarios.

Tom Bagshaw’s pieces can be bought in a couple of internet sites HERE and HERE.

Weekend Features: Prints by Brooks Salzwedel

Last Call: Amazing works still available

Brooks Salzwedel’s delicate and fragile visions of nature and tall man-made structures depict the gloom and serenity of life outside the city. It’s almost like you are staring straight into a fossilized semi-transparent dream…

“When working on a piece I ask myself what images I want as the focus or in the foreground then literally draw the images on the layer that coincides with the layer in depth. The layers are semi transparent materials floating between layers of resin.” -Brooks Salzwedel

Weekend Features: Prints by Zach Johnsen

Last Call: Amazing works still available

Overworked? Underpayed? Dead-end job and an overbearing boss? How about living the lifestyle not unlike that of a worker drone-bee enslaved into a lifelong sentence of mental anguish. Or maybe you just missed your daily morning cup of coffee. Regardless, these astonishing set of prints by Zach Johnsen can really strike a chord with the modern day office worker. Originally released in June 6th, 2011, these two set of prints were based off of works originally done for his first international solo show titled “Acid Over Easy” at the Backwoods Gallery in Melbourne, Australia. As best described by the artist himself:

“Acid Over Easy is a world of 9 to 5ers in moments of pure revelation. It is a real estate agent confronted by spirits that just became visible. It is hidden energies that tug at the back of the neck. It is psychadelic purple drink in the water cooler. It is sudden moments of inspiration. It is the catalyst that makes time stand still for a moment. It is getting in touch with nature for the first time. It is the realization that the monotonous routines of day to day living isn’t all there is to experience.. that there is so much power within ourselves and all around us just waiting for us to notice….” -Zach Johnsen

These two prints titled “Martini & Rossi” and “Grenadine” are both 20″ x 22″ Giclees, each with an editon size of 50. They can be bought as a set for $165, or for $90 individually. They are on sale now HERE. Hang these up on your office wall and in those ever prevalent moments at work that can potentially end in chaos and frustration, take a step back and take a sip on that purple drink…
